#130564 Hosted Apps: Mediawiki: sysop privs needed

No

Please allow project admins to set the *sysop* flag for users of their wikis.

It is needed for simple housekeeping tasks: deleted wrongly created pages and bad redirects, as well as for protecting pages that should not be editable by everyone (e.g. the Main Page or announcements from admins/developers).

It seems to me that whoever set up the wiki as a hosted app got confused by the fact that SF has *project admins* and possibly thought that *wiki admins* have similar priviledges. Well, they do not -- the (near) equivalent of an SF project admin is wiki *sysop* (I disregard the level of wiki bureaucrat, cause that functionality is available to the project admin from the menu). I simply can't believe that someone could purposefully disable this function.

Note: sysops can also "block" other users (prevent them from editing) -- but that may sometimes be necessary in open editing environments, and the obvious assumption is that i) we are adults and ii) project admins are ultimately responsible for choosing their wiki sysops. Being afraid that someone gets unjustly blocked is like being afraid that a developer will unjustly rollback another developer's changes in the CVS or delete some project docs; mistakes happen and halfwits happen, but not letting us do our own houskeeping over imaginary problems is simply counterproductive -- and therefore not fitting this very site and this community. On the wiki I am helping to build, there are already several pages to be deleted -- you don't want me to post a support request concerning these deletions, that would be a waste of both parties' time.

I am posting a separate request, because a similar request
(https://sourceforge.net/tracker2/?func=detail&aid=2121750&group_id=1&atid=200001), although pronounced a High Priority, has been lying dormant for almost a month now, while fixing this issue probably requires a minute of editing of wiki configuration files.

Thanks.

Thanks for the prompt action! :-)

Page protection can be set now (haven't tested whether it holds though), and I can delete pages, but I cannot *undelete* them - clicking on "restore" takes me back to the same page (Special:Undelete&...). Can't access individual revisions or diffs. This is not something that hurts my project right now, but it's a potential danger: undeleting is a safeguard against mistaken deletions -- now it is possible to delete pages forever, I'm afraid. Should I open a separate request for this issue? Thanks.

    Greetings,

We have enabled the ability to undelete in Mediawiki for administrators. Please verify that you are able to restore a deleted page, and post your results here.

    Thanks!
