I've decided to toss some of my random thoughts and explorations and notes regarding Marathon and AlephModular into my Sourceforge diary. Consider them proto-notes and curiosities. It's not like AM has a lot of documentation yet. (It probably should in some fashion) Right now I just started it off with a couple explorations of the rendering code, looking at details that a display class would need to deal with. Head to http://sourceforge.net/users/brefin/ and check the View Diary & Notes link. As to 0.4, I definitely want to address the basic hardware abstraction layer. Files, sounds, screen. I'd also like to settle some of the other basic support areas. wad files, preferences (internally, not gui). Further inspection needs to be done on areas like shell.cpp and interface.cpp and the preferences gui. Most notably and difficulty, abstracting the event loop. I'll try and come up with a better document in the coming days. But something I'm curious about now is whether any of the programmers we have here have an interest in researching and planning a particular area of code? There is a reason this project's status on SourceForge is listed as 'planning' we need to develop/derive our own architecture for this if we want the modules :) -Jeremy Parsons. |
