Hello everyone. I've just joined this list. I've always loved Marathon...this project seems to have merit. As far as my computing backgrounds go, I know basic C/C++, among some other, older languages...but the knowlege is self-taught. I don't know much about programming for OSX at all, but am trying to learn...most of my knowlege pertains to the non-graphical DOS-like environment (darn books...lol)...so I'm going to try to help as much as possible, however little that may result in in the end. As for some other issues that have popped up in the list recently, I'd like to put in my 2 cents... As for the 3D/2.5D issue... I look at it in this respect: When trying to make my own new scenario, my artisitic friend draws me up a new monster....which takes her, oh, about 2 days (if she works at it...lol). It takes me 10 minutes max to scan it in, and not too long to actually get it into the editors... Then, I think of how much longer it takes to make a 3D model. *shiver* Look at Diablo II..yes, it was released a while ago, but it is still played to this day... 2.5D simplifies things very much...I'd like to see a 3D version of Marathon as much as the next guy...but why not just let Bungie modify the Halo (I love how it's set in the Marathon universe...but I'd still like to see the link between the two...more than the Marathon symbols everywhere) engine, and be done with it...or someone else liscensing the Quake or Unreal engines and doing 3D with those ones... As for networking... I dont know the best way to do it. But at least, I would like to be able to set up a game against someone over the internet. Even if it is a one on one, TCP/IP game, whatever. Remember, not all of us are blessed wtih LANs... _________________________________________________________________ Protect your PC - get McAfee.com VirusScan Online http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963 |
