Any chance that you're using trying to query the file name?  Let's say that
you install the zsh rpm:
   $ rpm -iv zsh-3.0.8-2.aix4.3.ppc.rpm
   zsh-3.0.8

If you then try to query or remove zsh, you need to just specify zsh, or 
zsh-3.0.8:
   $ rpm -q zsh
   zsh-3.0.8

If you try to query zsh-3.0.8-2.aix4.3.ppc.rpm, you'll not find a match
   $ rpm -q zsh-3.0.8-2.aix4.3.ppc.rpm
package zsh-3.0.8-2.aix4.3.ppc.rpm is not installed
