Here is the latest gawk in the Toolbox:

In general, things built on a particular AIX release will also run on any 
later releases as well.  So the above RPM is for AIX 5.1 or newer.

If you have a immediate need for gawk-3.1.6 in particular, I would 
recommend tweaking our gawk-3.1.3 source RPM to build gawk-3.1.6.
