I know it seems strange, but even updating make-3.80 to make-3.81 is slowed
down by very rigorous process we are forced to go through internally here.

We're looking at updating a lot of the dev tools (autoconf, automake, m4, etc.)
at once, but until that happens I'm afaid using your own homegrown package
is the only way to go.
