I've had sustained rates of 5-7 Mbps between to 4800PCI's in AdHoc mode, over the length of about half a football field (actually, it *was* half of an actual football field) This was direct line of sight with nothing blocking the view between the antennas (the little dipole ones.) We did have to sort of tweak the positioning of the boxes when we first set them up, apparently we were getting low rates at first, but once we nudged the boxes a bit, the bitrate came back up.
