This list appears to have been virtually silent since the summer; is there anyone out there? Is there a better place to ask questions like below? I have a Xircom CWE1100 PCMCIA card which uses the CISCO 340 chipset. I've tried using the airo_cs drivers in 2.4.23, 2.4.24, and 2.6.1, to no avail. I've also tried using the CISCO provided drivers, but there is no DRVRBUILD script although the readme claims there should be. I'm not sure whether these drivers (release 1.6) will build against newer kernels. The device appears properly and I can see settings in /proc/driver/aironet/eth1, but it is usually unable to see any Access Points. There is one AP a few hundred yards from my house that it *does* see, but it can't see the AP sitting right next to it. Otherwise, I've tried four other APs with no luck. I don't know what distinguishes the one AP that it does see--I don't even really know where that one is. All of these APs work fine with my other network card, an SMC 2632W V3. I also have two of the CISCO 340 cards, so I don't think it's the case that one of them is defective. I've tried using airtraf to scan for APs, and it doesn't see any when I know they're there with the 340 card. I've tried to upgrade the firmware with CISCO's acu utility, but I always get "error commincating with resident mointor" from the utility and then pcX500:Fgetchar() input/output error in my xterm. The card is then unuseable until I eject and insert. Often, the card stops working entirely and I think the modules get stuck somehow: Jan 19 13:07:33 joehill kernel: de_put: deferred delete of eth1 Jan 19 13:35:50 joehill kernel: de_put: deferred delete of eth1 Jan 19 13:35:50 joehill kernel: de_put: deferred delete of aironet iwconfig hangs when this occurs, and certain other commands stop working as well, e.g., sudo (anything). I can only reboot to get things working again. Please help point me in the right direction! I've spent many unsuccessful hours trying to get this thing to work. -- Adam Kessel http://bostoncoop.net/adam |

I posted to this list several weeks ago, but I still haven't seen my email show on the sourceforge archive (<http://shorl.com/goguproprobubre>). Can someone confirm that this is a live list? =20 I'm unable to get the Xircom Wireless Ethernet card to attach to an AP. The card uses the Cisco 340 chipset. =20 I've noticed by going back to kernel 2.4.20 I can usually see a local Access Point with a network scanner (airtraf), but I still can't attach to it. Sometimes I notice the AP shows up very briefly--for a few seconds--in iwconfig, and then disappears. The AP is also sometimes listed in /proc/driver/aironet/eth0. But no matter what I can't actually associate with it or get an IP address. =20 Also, firmware upgrade with acu always crashes with "error communicatingwith resident mointor" from the utility and then pcX500:Fgetchar() input/output error in my xterm. The card is then unuseable until I eject and insert. The CPU usage also goes up to 100% until I do this. =20 Is there anyone on this list who understands this driver and could give me some tips? I've spent countless hours on this with no luck under 2.4.20, 2.4.24, 2.6.0, 2.6.1. --=20 Adam Kessel http://bostoncoop.net/adam |

Are you sure that the Xircom is really an Aironet card? I thought xircom was lucent... Does the Windows aironet driver work with your card? You are probably not getting any reply because no one knows about the card. ben --- Adam Kessel <ad...@bo...> wrote: > I posted to this list several weeks ago, but I still > haven't seen my > email show on the sourceforge archive > (<http://shorl.com/goguproprobubre>). Someone else once questioned me on whether or not the card is really a Cisco 340. My basis for believing that it is is that it says on the back: "This product contains Cisco Radio: Model AIR-PCM340." and: http://www.mh-linux.co.uk/showthread/t-192.html "I've doing it on a RH8.0 and with a Xircom CWE-1120 ()same as Cisco 340) should work with the airo_cs driver." and: /etc/pcmcia/config card "Xircom Wireless Network Adapter" manfid 0x0105, 0x0007 bind "airo_cs" One thing that may be worth noting (??) is that the model is a CWE1120-FR, which apparently means French. When I get the status of the card from acu it says "Channel Set: French." Thanks for any suggestions. One other data point that might be useful: although the card says "Model CWE1100" it also says "CWE1120-FR" lower down, which suggests it is a French model (and also that it's an 1120 rather than an 1100?). I don't know of any differences with the French models, but there must be some reason they label it as such. It also says "This product contains Cisco Radio: Model AIR-PCM340," so I'm pretty certain the airo_cs driver is the correct driver. -- Adam Kessel http://bostoncoop.net/adam |
