I stumbled across this today and thought it was a rather cool idea. However when I try to run the program I get the splash screen and then nothing.

I have an AMD64 3200+ processor with 512Meg of memory and an NVidia 6800GT video card.

Any ideas on what might be happening?

I'm afraid that aiplanet is getting out of date guys!

There has been no support for it, so I decided to move on to other things.  :(  Hopefully in the future I will be able to work on it again!

@Dave: Then remove the project from SF. Nobody needs software, which simply work.

AIplanet runs only on old computers.
New OpenGL drivers cause it to quit.

Then remove it if it doesn't work!  I downloaded it thinking it did!

    • Nobody/Anonymous

Wow What a bunch of crybabies!!
      Read the notice/warning before downloading

    • Nobody/Anonymous

nope... i thought it would be brillliant.... wont even start after a "press a button" that sucks...no fix either

    • Nobody/Anonymous

Bloody hell, it'd be nice if they made non-defective software.

        Hey all..

Look I'd like to update ai.planet to run on all of your new computers.  But, I am too busy.  I was hoping this project would attract investors, land me a job, or generate donations.  None of that has happened.

In the first two years i got nothing.

        $0

Then this year someone sent me $15 US.

        $5 a year.

Seriously that is not enough.  I cant afford to upgrade this program all the time.  It works fine for me and I dont need to change it.

I have other projects on the go, including a sequel to ai.planet!  It will not be free.

If you want this project updated then you will have to donate ... sorry!

not free?!!?!? it should be free... someone should pick this project back up, and make a free version, i mghit even do it myself

however, if you cwant it to run, try running under 256 colour

You are more than welcome to join the project and update it!

I will continue updating this project if people donate.

But my new work wont be free because I am broke and unemployed.
Meanwhile Electronic Arts, who i showed aiplanet to at version 0.5-0.6, refuses to hire me but goes ahead and makes a game that looks just like aiplanet anyways.  Not to mention I got kicked out of University for proposing aiplanet for my Masters degree in AI. Its ridiculous.  Fortunately I didnt tell EA about my ideas for the sequel so, those are still safe.  Aiplanet2 has game dynamics behind it that are really exciting!!  I cant OpenSource that project because all my ideas will get copied again.

I dont regret anything about aiplanet, I had a lot of fun and a major sense of accomplishment from completing it.  Its very time consuming to update it because all my build environments now are using the latest versions of software which are incompatible with the old aiplanet code.  Mainly the JEDI integer/decimal edits, totally broke the old codebase.  To update aiplanet would require going thru the entire proejct and replacing all the edit boxes with new ones, plus many other chore-like work.  I get tendonitis just thinking about it!

New version 1.1.1 should run on new computers.
Warning it has bugs that will crash the program.
      Sorry.

If you would like any bugs fixed then:
      A) donate
      B) fix them

      cheers
