I agree with the bit about delaying the release of AiM 3.0 beta, that's what we have been doing. But I don't agree that we can delay it for a month. Maybe AiM 2003 would have been a better name than AiM 3.0 to make my view clear. There needs to be a stable release that we can use during the upcoming academic year. And this release needs multi-part questions. I also agree with Ken that we need more time to produce a more polished version of AiM. We should make sure that AiM 2004 will be truly polished. As far as we in the UK are concerned, the real deadline for the stable release of AiM 2003 is the start of the autumn term in the second week of October. So that is still over one month away. But to be sure that it will be truly stable, we have to continue to give ourselves tight deadlines for the beta. > In addition, I have about 3000 lines of new code and bug fixes that I have > been documenting and working on all week in order to get it ready > to commit, > but I would like to discuss these changes with the list and test them with > the changes others have made recently before committing them. > Thus I think > a one month delay would do the project a lot of good. Wonderful! I am looking forward to seeing your new code. I think we can still get it into AiM 2003. How about delaying the beta for another week? > On a related matter, I have fixed the problem with the guest account that > Chris reported, but didn't commit that fix yet. Thanks for the fix. Please commit it as soon as you get a chance. Gustav |
