I think your changes are great. Please commit them.

Sorry I did not reply earlier, I was away for a few days.

Regarding marking changes with your initials: I did this before we moved to
CVS. I now find it much easier to look at the diff than to search for
comments. But I think it is no problem if people put their initials into the
code. I don't even see any reason to remove those comments before the
release.
