AI-2 is a Linux system for ordinary and older computers that gives them a local AI assistant, a language model that runs on the machine itself, on the CPU, with no account, no subscription and no data leaving the computer. Based on Artix Linux (runit, XFCE, rolling release).

It does not turn a computer away for being old or slow. At first login a setup wizard detects the hardware, assigns a capability tier, tunes the system, installs the matching llama.cpp build (three CPU variants, so CPUs without AVX or SSE4.1 work), downloads a fitting model and measures an AI Score that decides which models are recommended. "ai-2 chat" opens a chat page in the browser; programs can use the OpenAI-compatible API on localhost.

Lean by design: the 1.85 GB image ships the desktop, a browser, a text editor and the AI engine. 64-bit, BIOS and UEFI, 2 GB of RAM minimum. Free software, MIT.
