I think you can alter the header search path like this: ./configure ... CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/include/tcl8.3 $CPPFLAGS" or if you are using a bourne shell the following might work as well: CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/include/tcl8.3 $CPPFLAGS" ./configure ... You will be able to tell whether the first style is supported by the following command: ./configure --help I'm not sure about the libtool error you are getting.
