This lirc_vrgpio CIR driver is based on the lirc_serial
driver of the current standard version of LIRC,
The source tarball of this driver,
lirc_vrgpio-lirc-0.6.6.tgz, contains the following
lirc_vrgpio-lirc-0.6.6.release_notes.txt -- that is
lirc_vrgpio.c -- the driver
lirc_vrgpio.h -- needed headers
lirc_vrgpio.o -- compiled loadable Kernel module
makeLircMod -- module compilation script
The source is meant as replacement for the AgVr3 kernel
''lirc_vrgpio.c'', though it can be also compiled as a
loadable kernel module. For this to work, however, you
need first a kernel *without* lirc support. You can
compile it yourself using the option CONFIG_LIRC=n.
See the KernelMiniHowTo at http://agendawiki.com for
details about kernel and modules compilation.
The new driver achieves a sensible improvement of CIR
signal fidelity. I have posted performance comparisons
between the new and the old drivers at the agendawiki
