Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Hey guys, I'm working on a project where I've forked the Swarm code from awhile back (1.0.5) that I'm calling "retroswarm". My intentions are to avoid all the complicated stuff we put in to support windows, java, scheme, etc. and to tear off the tcl/tk gui, and make defobj and activity usable as a separate component. The basic idea is to pare swarm down to a simple state for objective-c programmers. Once we get there, I intend to make it compatible with the modern GNU objective-c runtime, hook it up to GNUstep (and maybe Cocoa), and, thereby, provide a lightweight objective-c simulation package for the modern objective-c programmer. Plus, it will allow me to actually continue the work we started on defobj without it being cluttered by all the cruft we piled on top of it later. So, my question to this list is: Would you guys be interested in having this code in the AgenTools CVS repository? I'm prepared to either provide my own publicly accessible repository (on retroswarm.org) or start a new project on sourceforge.net. But, since the stated purpose of agentools is "modularity", which is my primary purpose with retroswarm, I thought I'd run the idea by you and see what you thought. -- glen e. p. ropella =><= Hail Eris!
