#13 file listing works, but cannot acces files

After mounting an AFS share from snow leopard, file listing works, but cannot access files
e.g.:

# mount_afp "afp://user:pass@server_ip/sharename ~/mnt/tmp
Mounting server_ip from sharename on /home/pallinger/mnt/tmp2
Mounting of volume sharename of server beep mac succeeded.
# ls -l ~/mnt/tmp
-rw-r--r-- 1 pallinger pallinger 14623192576 2011-06-10 14:55 win7-disk1.vmdk
-rw-r--r-- 1 pallinger pallinger 121 2011-06-10 14:55 win7.mf
-rw-r--r-- 1 pallinger pallinger 5183 2011-06-10 14:55 win7.ovf
# cat win7.mf
cat: win7.mf: Permission denied

Anyone has any idea what could be the problem?
I can access these files using the same account through SMB.
