I'm afraid that I don't have experience with those types of tools, so I
can't really help you there. You might have better luck by asking the
question on the afp-l mailing list at
http://lists.topica.com/lists/afp-l

However, as an alternative, you might consider using a barcode font in
your documents instead. This would mean that you didn't have to mess
around with images.
