Patrick,
You may want to check out the latest developments within the main Fop
project - afp-renderer has been taken under the wing of the core guys
at Fop. See http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/trunk/output.html#afp.
This old project and it's use of fop 0.20 is rapidly becoming ancient
history. Currently it is in the Fop sandbox but has already cleared
the vote to become at some point soon upgraded to the main jar. I've
been using it for the past couple of months and have found it to be
very stable.
On your other point - I've had some success in getting fonts to work
with the Barr viewer by dropping ttf files in C:\Program Files\Barr
\AFP Viewer\Fonts
Yours,
Keith
