No one else seems to be having this problem, so I've apparently honked something up. On startup, I get four lines of 'add path', the last two loading null items, and then a line that reads:
/usr/local/bin/aethera: line 9: 3993 Segmentation fault /usr/local/bin/aethera.bin
Any ideas? I'm running MD8.1, KDE3.0. Thanks.

I'm getting the same kind of seg fault on RedHat 7.2 with KDE 3.0. Is there any way to start Aethera with logging or debugging? The error message isn't that helpful.

Hi,
I have got some messages like this and the solution was to remove the $HOME/.qt/qtrc file.
I don't know yet the real reason, also I don't know what did that file.
Let me know if this is your problem too.
You can use the sources for debugging.
Regards,
Eug
PS: Aethera has nothing to do with your system libraries since it's comming with it's own QT and there isn't any depencies with KDE.

Hi,
Please start Aethera in console and send me (eug@thekompany.com)the output.
qtrc seems to be a qt problem but I don't have a fix yet :(

Hi,
That is also the Jim's problem.
The log doesn't help me and the core will not help too because the release doesn't have debug info.
Only someone who can build Aethera from sources with his qt version will help me.
IMO is a QT compatibility problem but I cannot prove it.
Sorry Jim, you are dissapointed by my delay, even if the GPL world is so big, I am only one.
Thanks,
Eug

Hi Rick,
About the memory usage.
I am working to get down the memory usage as much as possible and the next release is very close.
But keep in mind that it's a PIM app, so it will use still more memory than a usual (small) app.
Regards,
Eug

I wrote to The Kompany directly about this issue and the reply was along the lines of "we're too busy to look at it right now". I think that by the time they come out with a release that might work, I will have too much information invested in another mail program to care. They seem to be putting most of their resources into programs that people pay for. Can't say as I blame them. But if they don't want to put a lot of effort into this program, they ought to just float it to the open source world and get on with their other work.

God knows I tried to build from source! That was even more of a nightmare than trying to run the binary.
A question for Eugen: Why be just one? If you put up an appeal on kde.org for developers to joint the project, I am sure you would get a good response. People want KDE to succeed. But right now, it has no mail client that would compare favorably to Evolution.

Hi Jim,
I will try to have the SRPM (and RPM) available for next release, so that the building will be easy.
Aethera has more then a year old and nobody wanted to add their help.
When we started it, there were some callings in KDE lists but nothing.
Now, Aethera is using only QT for some reasons.

Eug

Me too. I got seg fault when it's trying to connect to my SSL+IMAP account :( It looks very nice though. Can't wait til the stable version :)

There is something strange with KDE3 and Qt3 based applications, it isn't affecting everyone and we are trying to nail it down exactly.
As far as SSL, Aethera doesn't support SSL yet.

Deleting qtrc got Aethera configuration to start, then after I finished with the config screens, it seg faulted again!

I sent this earlier to Eugen via e-mail, but he may not have linked it to this thread. So here it is again:
I'm sending the output I get from Aethera before it seg faults. Let me know if
there is any solution.

This looks like a wonderful replacement for KMail which is not bad for a mail client but like most KDE apps, it is memory hungry and taxes an old PC.
If I don't see a fix posted here I will just watch for the next release.
