The code for Aethera is amazingly modular. I mean its seriously component-based. I can see support in there for all kinds of fantastic things! Just loading the app for the first time makes you look and say, "hmm... where IS everything?", as it does look quite bear. I know now that things just haven't been exposed yet.

I'm getting quite excited...tell us more about whats coming next! Contact management is becoming a personal interest of mine, and I'm hoping that Aethera will have strong support for vCard import/export, LDAP directories, and a nice and attractive way of displaying them. I see that vCard is in there--am I pretty close to what's in store, guys?

Eugene, Shawn, (and whoever else is working on Aethera), you guys rock! Keep up the fantastic work!

    Regards,

    Eron

Eug did an amazing job with Aethera, and it is the main reason it has gone so slow to this point.  There are some really amazing pieces of technology in Aethera that probably get blipped over when using it.  Think about the fact that KOrganizer, a KDE application will run as a native component in Aethera, a Qt application, and will also run under Windows with Aethera when we finish porting it.

There are many things planned for Aethera, which I'm not going to get in to at the moment, but it is all standards based as you mentioned.

I had a frustrating comment the other day from someone who said the UI looked immature because it didn't look like MS Outlook.  I'm sad that so many people in the Linux revolution seem to look at the MS products as the bar to reach.  That bar is too low in my opinion.

Well, you have to remember, several of your key apps (Rekall, Kivio) *DO* closely resemble their Microsoft competitors...although Outlook is not the end-all, catch-all of groupware. In fact, it is missing a lot of key things, and I can see Aethera becoming something more along the lines of Notes, which IMHO is much more powerful. The only nice thing about Evolution, for example, is that I can slap that in front of most any M$ junkie and they'll fit right in. If Aethera becomes intuitive enough, however, you wouldn't have that problem, anyways. The current UI could use some nice enhancements, however, but I'll wait to next week's release to decide what feedback is necessary.

        Have a great weekend, friends,

        Eron
