Just joined this, and had one question. How does this version differ from the Aepic (Jepic) version written in Perl that was done about 4 - 5 years ago ? That one seemed fairly stable. Reminds me, I have the old version of Aepic somehwere in my storage. _________________________________________________________________ It's simple! Hi everyone, So, I've made a new "Turn Helper" for Aepic that uses Excel (based on Sam's old Access version) which makes all the maps you'd ever want (ok, there are lots I haven't thought of but it is mostly there) and then helps with all the orders - making them a little easier to do. If I was able to convince Adrian to start a new test game that was automatically processed every Mon, Wed, Fri would anyone be interested in playing - and interested in trying out the new turn helper? OK, I'm back in Beijing, settling in to married life and Beijing smog. I've processed and emailed out turn 5 of the trial game, please have a go at writing a quick turn and send it in, I want to get things stable before trying a "real" game. Yes, various distractions, I'm sorry. Hoping to run another turn very soon, and pick up the odds & ends. Not many people putting in turns though -- Adrian, Sean, David Bent, Peter Bousfied, Anthony are putting in turns, not sure if any others? I should also set up a "daily game" that will automatically process turns every day, whether I'm there or not, to test big numbers. Guys, (and Sam in particular), I've been working on Sams OLD Access 97 Based Aepic Helper and have checked it to a stage where in can successfully import orders sheets (if Adrian sends the sheets as attachments) and allow the mapping information to be extracted (and then import that into an excel spreadsheet as we all know that mapping is the biggest issue we have with the game) but there is a problem that I'm having getting the basic order writer to work. Does anyone know enough about Access programming these days (using Access 2003) to work on the basic orders - Sam did ALL the required hard work many years ago, but I need to find someone who can fix up some bugs that are now evident when moving from Access 97 to 2003 and higher. Errors like (if you recognise this then you're the person I need): [BasicsSub].[Form].[RecordSetClone].[RecordCount] no longer being valid statements in Access and having to replace them with functions. It will be a little challenge to anyone able to work with VBA - I've spent the last week trying to solve this one problem... so it would seem that I'm not that great a programmer (which I'm not really - I'm a Hack, and I admit that). Anyone able to help? db _____________________________________________________ David Bent dav...@po... For some reason my G1 started it's movement from the previous turns provinc= e? Possibly related to being home province? Here is movement orders from turn 2: move g1 5 0 0 0 0 0 2525 -> 2526: Province is owned by ID#16 terrain: coastal This is from turn 1: move g1 5 0 0 0 0 0 2525 -> 2526: Province is owned by ID#1 terrain: coastal Which was subsequently conquered as shown in the movement orders of turn 2. My other groups moved okay. Thank you, Peter Bousfield - +61 402 503 877 |

Reading through the turn I discovered that it is nearly impossible to find where the order return ends and the Turn Sheet starts. Adrian, can you add a number of Carrige returns and some section devider to the reports to you can find the beginning of the turn. Thanks, FOG ps - another error with the Rules, not a bit one, under the "Non-Player Positions" and the "Diplomacy" Sections of the rules it incorrectly marks "Wizards of Thu" and "Lords of Chaos" as ID# 4 and ID#5 respectively.... however it should be: ID#4 Lords of Chaos ID#5 Wizards of Thu. Not a biggie as I said. However, it doesn't make sense to me why the Wizards of Thu are harder to diplomacize that the Lords of Chaos (with their undead armies defending the province). Maybe that should be looked at - maybe ID#5 should have the -18 and ID#4 should have the -24. Just my thoughts. _____________________________________________________ David Bent dav...@po...
