#238 Merge advancemame patches into mame trunk

Sorry if this answered somewhere else.

Why aren't the advancemame patches merged into the mame
trunk? Seems like the majority of the patches would be
trivial to add which would simplify keeping advancemame
and mame in sync.

    One reason AdvanceMAME isn't merged because of the things like hq3x - which the MAME devs have said will never be implemented in MAME. The MAME edict has always been to recreate the original games exactly, not to enhance them.

    Also, the MAME devs seem to prefer simpler, easy-to-maintain code over more complicated code with greater dependencies that runs faster. Even SDLMAME is kept separate (despite being created by members of MAMEDEV), because they don't want to maintain multiple rendering options in the core.

    Due to the license, anyone's free to backport the AM upgrades to MAME core. But, if my understanding is correct, it is unlikely the patches would be accepted.

    It isn't trivial. Most of the AdvanceMAME modifications are very pervasive, and difficult to add to the official MAME.

    Anyway, any relevant changes at the MAME core was already submitted at the time.
