Sorry if reposting, the post seemed not to work last time for unknown reason... --- Dear list, we have come to a new release of forssim, 0.0.2, a version where you actually can do some foot drilling (yes, foot is the sample volume file included). I have also added a binary windows build of the release that should run out of the box. You need to have OpenHaptics 2.0 installed to run it with a phantom device. Please reply with any feedback. Did you feel anything? Vibrations? Hard to compile and run? Other devices work? Currently we have a performance issue in gnu/linux that practically limits the drill sphere radius to 2 mm with the sample volume. The strange thing is that it runs well in windows with much larger drill. The haptic algorithm is non-optimized and we use a few "slower" calls for getPixel(), but the problem might not be there. Suggestions? The following two weeks we will focus on documentation, testing and code cleanup, as well as work some on segmentation and drill playback. We will also be using launchpad.net/forssim more, trying out their issue tracker etc. You are very welcome to join the development effort in "Forssim Open Team" Best regards Jonas Forsslund |

Dear list, We have sucessfully compiled forssim on windows, and also fixed a bug that was releated to images loading in a separate thread. We still recommend using gnu/linux for development. There are still some unwanted vibrations but we are working on removing them (this is a rewrite and the old code does not have these problems). The code is in bazaar revision 5. Jonas Forsslund |

Dear list, The recent release of medx3d (refer to www.h3d.org) have made it possible to fully run the adrillforce project. At this point, we at Forsslund Systems AB have decided to not only release the force feedback algorithms of our simulator under development, but the complete source code. Together with a expanding team, active development have started and during the last two weeks we have worked at porting the code to fit with medx3d, (changing y-axis definition etc), adding drilling node, to compile well in GNU/Linux including configure scripts and documenting the steps taken to setup development environment. So: the adrillforce project have now gone up into project "forssim", whose first release 0.0.1 we have launched today. We keep this list for discussion until we setup another one. Main information channel is: http://dev.forsslundsystems.se Happy hacking! Jonas Forsslund CEO Forsslund Systems AB |
