you are right, but there is one issue, and i have discovered how to get
it working, register 5 in opl3 bank two turns the opl3 mode on and off,
setting this to zero makes the plugin produce sound. this must have been turned
on in driver initialisation someplace.

i can hear some really old tunes now played back with amazing retro
quality! cheers
