#19 Make package updates visible BEFORE an action is chosen
The user could be shown a dialog indicating affected
packages, or there could be an extra panel or pop-up
to show the changes to other packages that would
occur if a particular action was enabled (e.g. "do
nothing" --> "install").
This would complement the "Preview Changes" view and
prevent (or at least reduce) the occurence of
unwanted changes. Such changes might occur if the
user overlooks a changed item that is listed
off-screen or filtered out of the view, and when a
user does not preview changes before executing them.
Maybe some would suggest this kind of idea
discourages people from paying attention to what they
do to their systems. I would argue, however, to the
contrary: users are forced to pay attention to
changes a little bit more if this proposal in
implemented, only in a possibly slightly more
expedient way than those currently available.
