Using filters

Overview

If you use MS Excel for the work with data you know the feature „auto filter“. With this feature you can define the values of a column you want to see in the sheet. Rows with other values will be hidden.

Adele supports this feature too. Additionally you can use a row filter. With this it is possible to hide rows by using „keep“ or „hide“ the selected line.

Using the column filter

Filters can be used for all data imported as datasets and visualized as table. The following example contains the order items of a typical basket.

At the left side the structure of the dataset is visible as nodes. Below the table node the available columns are displayed separated by the technical type.

Using the context menu of the table or column node different feature are available. The filter functionality can be found here. Using the menu „set filter values“ from the context menu of column „product“ the following popup will be opened.

All wanted values can be set here. Depending on the operating system you have to press a additionally key to select more than one line with gaps. Try the Shift key for using that feature.

After confirming that popup the table view will use the current filter. The column „product“ will be marked by a special symbol to display the filter status. The same symbol is used at the table node to see that this table is filtered.

In the top of the right area you see information about the current filter status. In this example the meaning is: „from the existing 55 rows 12 rows survived the filter and 0 of them are selected at the moment“.

Using the row filter

In some cases you want the check all the data row by row. The row filter gives you the possibility to hide the already checked rows step by step. Another usage is the select some lines and use the row filter in „keep“ mode. Only the selected line will be displayed in the next step.

To activate both modes select some rows first. Then push the button „confirm selection“. A popup will be displayed.

After confirming that popup the table will be refreshed respecting the additionally row filter. Now table of the example will display only 8 rows because the „hide“ mode for the selected 4 lines was used.

Reset the filter

The context menu of the column or table nodes are containing the items to clear the filters. The filter can be cleared for a column or for all column and rows by using the table node. If you want to keep the filter values you can use the „deactivate filter“ feature from the table node context menu.

Tipps and tricks

There are some expert features for exporting the filter criterias to the clipboard. This can be used for documentation issues. Filter values can be imported by the clipboard if the visible text is exactly the same too the existing values.

If you want to use the feature „send values to clipboard“ the current filter for the column will be respected. Only wanted values will be exported to the clipboard.

Context sensitive analyzing and visualizing methods are respecting the filters too.
