I was hoping to use the precompiled one for readhat 9,
but got unresolved symbol errors. So I got my own
kernel sources and compiled my own, but STILL get them.
Any ideas?

My readhat 9 system didn't have a
/boot/vmlinuz.version.h file, so I copied the one from
/usr/source/linux-2.4.20-8/build/include/linux/version.h
to the appropriate place mentioned in the readme file.

It also then gave me the incompatible kernel error,
that i compiled it for 2.4.20 instead of 2.4.20-8.
I'd used the (unpacked rpm) kernel sources for 2.4.20-8
really, so I just edited the version.h file to include
the '-8'.

Thanks for any help anyone can give me, I'm tearing my
hair out after a spending most of today on this :)

Sounds like you still have issues with a not quite exact match
(and I'm afraid I cannot quite tell you what exactly needs
to be done in such a case to resolve it)

Try compiling and installing a new kernel (with your old
config settings that you'll hopefully find somewhere in your
installed kernel packages). That should fix it, because then
you should have version files that do match.

We had some modver header file issues, that should be fixed
now (except for one small issue which I still need to fix).
    Thanks!
