Task #84292 has been updated. Project: ActiveLock Subproject: ActiveLock Website Summary: Multilingual translation using BabbleFish Complete: 100% Status: Closed Authority : th2tran Assigned to: mcrute Description: Add multilingual (Spanish, Italian, etc...) translation to our website to help our Brazilian friends understand what the heck the site says. This way, our online API documentation can get translated as well. See links below on examples of adding BabbleFish icons on our site: http://www.devincook.com/GOLDParser/ http://www.industri.no/e-weld/eng/ Follow-Ups: ------------------------------------------------------- Date: 2004-06-16 19:20 By: mcrute Comment: The buggy behavior with page translation has been remedied. When going back to english you still must submit it through babelfish. The symptoms you listed are all treated and in my testing I don't forsee any others. Try to break it and let me know what happens. ------------------------------------------------------- Date: 2004-06-16 01:10 By: th2tran Comment: OK. Here's one problem I was really trying to get at: - Initially, I go to www.activelock.org, or activelock.sourceforge.net whatever, I get the English page. Fine - Then I click on the French tab. Got the French translation. Great. - Then I click on the English tab. The page is still in French. Why? There is , theoretically, another issue in that every time I click on a language tab, the URL gets longer. If the users keeps clicking on the tabs, eventually it will blow up with an error: HTTP request failed with status code: 400. But this is a theoretical problem--I don't imagine normal users doing that too much. ------------------------------------------------------- Date: 2004-06-15 21:41 By: mcrute Comment: Yes... if you simply link to www.activelock.org then your going to get the homepage translated into the active language. You have to do some conversion to return it to the original state. ------------------------------------------------------- Date: 2004-06-15 19:54 By: th2tran Comment: Re-opening for inquiry... For English, is it really necessary to pass it through to BabelFish? ------------------------------------------------------- Date: 2004-06-06 21:14 By: mcrute Comment: ActiveLock users can now translate the site to either Spanish, French, or Italian by using the tabs at the top of the site. ------------------------------------------------------- Date: 2004-06-06 18:56 By: mcrute Comment: Began looking at this... Should have it done within the next hour or two. ------------------------------------------------------- For more info, visit: http://sourceforge.net/pm/task.php?func=detailtask&project_task_id=84292&group_id=70007&group_project_id=30873 |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Mike, | Ok so same old same old with the addition of Pete who is technical | adviser. What is that role in our project? Pete's role traditionaly had been, even before he agreed to join us formally, to find security weaknesses in the implementation and suggest improvements. For that reason, I've dubbed Pete our technical advisor. :-) | Also are you the only programmer? That would be an understatement of the day, but yes. | So we are in feature freeze? Yes, that's the general idea of going beta. I announced it a few months ago when we moved into beta 1. | Or are you guys still programming? Only to fix critical bugs. | Also we should do something about the open trouble tickets and bug | reports if we are just "letting it soak". They don't seem to be critical issues so I will look into them in due time. We just need to make sure we address them all before we go to 5 (production/stable). | Could you please keep these discussions on the developers mailing | list so the rest of us can be in the loop (or was this when I | wasn't getting group emails?). I exercise discretionary judgement when deciding what's appropriate for posting to the list and what should be kept in private conversations (case in point: this email thread). | Well we can go wiki docs and export offline versions for shipping | with the app. This will encourage the entire ActiveLock community | to contribute to the documentation effort instead of just leaving | it to a few developers. We will still need someone (probably me) to | keep an eye on the wiki's just to make sure only "good stuff" is | getting in the docs. Insofar as that is concerned I have Wiki | software I just need to modify it to connect up to our forum login | system and develop a custom process to export straight HTML docs of | "shipping". I will start work on that as soon as I get the green | light from you. Sounds great. Let's go with Wiki then. Go ahead and set it up and let me know when it's available for a peek. Out of curiosity, what's the name of the wiki software that you have in mind? Is it WikiPedia? About the template... think about the Wiki idea, we can export the wiki docs to an HTML format and maybe even compile them into an HTML help file for sending with our final release. This will allow all the community to contribute AND eliminate duplicate work.
