Although we no longer run Access Grid, one method we've used with AG is to run a document camera with RGB output and input, and treat the RGB capture as if it were a camera.  The lecturer can sit and write much more quickly and easily on a sheet of paper than using a whiteboard, remains facing toward the camera, and at the push of a button on the document camera, can select the RGB input and so show anything from their own laptop, such as a Powerpoint or anything else on their desktop such as browser windows etc.

We've used Datapath RGB Pro-02 dual RGB capture cards, though had to do a registry tweak to set 1024 x 768 resolution, because that wasn't available as resolution when we installed them a few years back.
One quirk that arose was that Access Grid wouldn't run if both RGB capture ports were enabled, and so it was  necessary to disable one of the RGB ports.  Other software had no problems with dual capture.

A lot may have changed in the AG world since we set that up.

We do a lot of video conferencing now using Scopia and use this method to avoid running a presentation which doesn't always work well on some older hardware.  It is necessary to ensure that the RGB capture appears as a large image for all endpoints.  Layouts for H.323 users and recordings can be set via Scopia's "Scopia Management" moderator control, and Scopia endpoints can drag their own layouts to suit.

This method also allows much better frame rates when showing video clips etc than the usual presentation streams on H.323 systems, and audio from the lecturer's laptop can also be added if needed to feed both the local venue and send out to other venues.

Hi All,

We have a need to lecture a Math course via Access Grid. The lecturer wants to use a whiteboard so he/she can write a complex math symbols and interactive notes.

In the past we used smartboard being connected to Access Grid via VNC. We do not have a smartboard anymore.

Could you suggest any alternative solutions.
