Hello Asha! Thank you very much for the great work! Your implementation will be reviewed during this weekend and added to = the official package... the 'No item was selected' trouble shouldn't be a problem..... I can = easily fix it.... ..... I will also add the documentation written by Manuel to the official = package.... Best regards.... Once more, thanks.... Hello Manuel! > Hello > > How do you do? I haven't heard anything from each of you in the last 3 three > weeks. Of course I was on holidays, but have you done anything for the > project? Unfortunately, I haven't got the time to do great things on the project yet(I have the duty to work on another project).... However, I've tested your code you've submitted for the "look&feel" ....You have done a hard job!:-) I think that for now, if we can add the connection pool to the app and port it to MySQL, Oracle and MSSQL, then we can make an official release1.1 of the JGuestBook. Then, make it available for download ... if we see allot of interest on the app then we'll include the flexible "look&Feel" you have implemented. If we don't see any interest(I hope this won't happen!!!), then the project may die :-((( Now, a word about the code you have implemented.... If I was given the task to implement a flexible look&feel for the JGuestBook, I will consider the following: 1) The person going to make the template design and upload it on the server is probably the one who is installing the JGuestBook... he is probably the one who has uploaded the JGuestBook on the server.... so he has FTP access to the server..... therefore, he could upload his newly designed template on the server via FTP together with the JGuestBook. So IMHO, the file upload code is not really necessary..... Please, correct me if I'm wrong 2)The implementation: I would move all declaration and all code not outputting any text from the body of the "index.jsp" page to the top of the page. and all the content between "<html> </html>" tag will be moved to a file called for instance "template01_theme.jsp" so, the file "template01_theme.jsp" will contain code such as "<%=category.getCattitle()%>" , "<%=book.getGenderIcon(en.getGender())" , "<%= book.displayMessage(en.getMessage())%>" , etc....... and the designer will have the full control over this file......he can totally redesign this template.... I will write code to check for files ending by "_theme.jsp" and via the admin interface, the admin will choose one file as current template... the chosen file will be included in the "index.jsp" file.... that's quite simple...... perhaps, I'm too lazy to implement complex solutions:-) That's just an idea.... so Manuel, let me know what you think about this idea. But again, we'd better port the app to other DB and make a new release, let people use it before including the flexible look and feel. > Now I'm back from holidays, but sick, at the moment. I got some problems with > my ears. But I hope on Thurthday I'm gonna go to work and then I got perhaps > some times to do something. > Oh... sorry that you got sick..... but I know you're a strong man! So you'd recover soon! :-) Have a nice time! And thanks!!! Arcadius |

Hello Manuel! I updated the CVS-Repository. But I found there some problems. We changed the package name since last time you have uploaded something. So I have deleted the old package, but I can't delete the folders too, that must do the sourceforge team. And I found an other thing. We shouldn't upload the .class files. CVS is only for text-based files not for binaries. I don't now how it works with the images. Yes, that's right..... CVS is for source only.... It was my mistake at the very beginning... If you now like to update or checkout the CVS repository please always use the option -P this means "cvs update -P". This options will delete on your local repository the empty folders. (old package folders and the classes folder). Perhaps it is nessessary to delete all files in them first. I don't now. Now Manuel, I'm very busy [ University is starting :-( ].... I have had a look at the code you've posted..... but I haven't installed/tested it yet..... I'll do so ASAP. I also think that a cleanup is necessary for the CVS... I'll manage to do all this as soon as I'll get a bit of time..... But by the mean-time, you can continue working on the code.... and if you're having troubles with the CVS, you may upload the packages to your website and let us download it.... Thanks allot! Regards... Arcadius. |

So please keep working on / improving this part of the project..... someone else will do the MySQL stuff ( I'll do it myself ASAP! ..... unless there is someone there who would like to do it). Thanks! Arcadius. PS: it's better not to send big files to the mailing list..... I think you have access to the website http://aajguestbook.sourceforge.net/ . you could upload the file there or if you have a webpage ( at work or at tripod.com, geocities.com etc) you could send the file there and let us download it. |

(You translate the aaJGuestBookPgSQLdb.sql ......I think you'll need a newer version of MySQL) Me, I'll try to write it for Oracle and if possible for MSSQL .... and also the "Connection pooling" stuff so that all these features could be included in the final release 1.1.. Hello I implemented now my idea. The administrator could upload a file via the=20 web-interface. Something like that: <html> <head> =2E.. </head> <body> <h1>MyGuestBook</h1> <p> [categories] [category] [/categories] </p> <p> [entry] <p> Firstname: [firstname]<br> Lastname: [lastname]<br> =2E... </p> [/entry] </p> </body> </html> I wrote a parser witch can create from such a file a .jsp file. The=20 administrator could choose if he would like his design or the standart=20 design. The standard-design will not be deleted if uploading a design. The parser could also handle attributes in the tags. bsp: [website typ=3D"link"] [website typ=3D"plain-text"] At the moment ther is no Tag with attributes but in a next version I gues= s=20 there will be some.=20 On Monday I will finish my work. Hello all! Yesterday morning, our main email server went down, so I could not read your posts before the new release! Now I'm reading the archives online.... So I've seen Asha's post too..... There is a CVS repository available that we could use so that whenever someone make changes to the sourcecode, he could submit changes to the CVS and make it available to all others developers.... there is a manual page about how to use CVS at: http://www.cvshome.org/docs/manual/ I haven't read it myself yet.. so ASAP, I'll read it and all developers can use the CVS at sourceforge.... PS: Asha... the page "addEntry.jsp" is used by normal users as well... so IMHO, putting an admin navigation bar on it is not a good idea..... Thanks allot for the time you're spending on aaJGuestBook Thanks for all. --- Arcadius Ahouansou ___________________________________________________ Communicate with others using Lycos Mail for FREE! http://mail.lycos.com |

Hello I've installed the new version of the guestbook. It works fine. I use MySQL 3.23. I created the tables by myself. Well but I find 2 errors. In the file addEntry.jsp and edit.jsp you've forgotten to import java.util.Vector. There is an other thing I would add to the index.jsp page. Where you could change the category should be also a Link to index.jsp to view all categories mixed. Hello All! I've managed to add new features to aaJGuestBook. And, I'm also planning to rename aaJGuestBook to JGuestBook. And I don't do only JSP .. but I do PHP as well, so I'm planning to move all my PHP and JSP projects under a common project called "MENELIK". Please, for now, I have port (DB table script) only for PostgreSQL, I have MySQL 3.23 and I will need to upgrade it before making the port for MySQL, so this will be done as soon as I'll upgrade my MySQL server to version4 Allot of testing will be needed. Demo at: http://aajguestbook.sourceforge.net/index.php#demo Downloads at: http://aajguestbook.sourceforge.net/index.php?id=downloads Thanks. Arcadius |

Hi > I found an Error in editEntry.jsp on line 41. You > use there a Vector, but > you have not imported java.util.Vector. Perhaps you > have alredy fixed that. I too found the same error in editEntry.jsp as well as errorPage.jsp. I didn't mention earlier by thinking that all of u might have fixed this minor error. One more minor change I have made i.e : Whenever we goto add a Entry through a 'Main Home' link, there is no Administartion Navigation bar displayed. So if we don't want to add a data and if we want to come back to admin page, we need to reload adminPage. So I added "<%=book.displayAdminNavbar()%><BR>" in the index.jsp page before the line "<h1 align="center"> aaJGuestBook 1.0.2</h1>" (and I corrrected aaJGuestBook 1.0 to aaJGuestBook 1.0.2 in this line) Now whenever I get time I am trying to write a code for using aajguestbook for multiple tables. I am thinking to use a layout like - whenever we goto add a entry, after clicking submit button, it should ask in which table do u want to add this data? Is this okay? If u have any good idea just inform me so that I can try that way. Thanks Asha. > > Regards schoetz > > -- > GMX - Die Kommunikationsplattform im Internet. > http://www.gmx.net > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This sf.net email is sponsored by: OSDN - Tired of > that same old > cell phone? Hello You missunderstand me. I mean if we will implement a design that the user= =20 (admin) could change over the Web-interface, then the easiest way to that= is=20 too change the .jsp files. This means the user could upload via the=20 admin-interface a file with something like that: <html> <h1>my guestbook</h1> [entry] [name] =2E... [/entry] </html> and we will make from this file a .jsp file with this design. regards schoetz Am Montag, 2. Hello I had a problem with the config file. If I loged in with a different user on my OS the config file is a different directory. This is a problem for me, cause I would like to use the GB with 2 two users and I won't to change 2 config-files every time. And there is an other reason why we have to write files to the ROOT directory of the GuestBook. The easiest way to implement a full flexible guestbook is to change the .jsp files. I tested without restarting the server and it works. I think it should also work on other servers. regards schoetz -- GMX - Die Kommunikationsplattform im Internet. http://www.gmx.net |
