Xtrace is an Objective-C debugging library that intercepts method calls made to a class or individual object and prints detailed execution traces. It can trace inherited methods, entire application bundles, or groups of classes selected with regular expressions. Logged information can include selectors, arguments, return values, and calling functions. Developers can exclude classes, selectors, or problematic data types before tracing begins. A basic profiling interface can rank intercepted methods by accumulated execution time. The project is now superseded by SwiftTrace and mainly serves as a historical runtime-inspection tool for older Objective-C, iOS, and macOS applications.
Features
- Objective-C method interception
- Class and instance tracing
- Argument and return-value logging
- Regex-based method filtering
- Runtime profiling
- LLDB and code-injection workflows
