Preboot is a collection of LESS variables and reusable mixins for writing CSS more quickly and consistently. It originated as Bootstrap.less and later became one of the foundations from which Bootstrap evolved. Instead of providing complete interface components, it supplies low-level styling primitives that developers can incorporate into their own designs. The package helps reduce repetitive CSS for common patterns and browser compatibility concerns. Its mixins cover reusable techniques such as layout helpers, dimensions, typography, gradients, transitions, transforms, and other frequently repeated declarations. Because variables and mixins are processed during LESS compilation, developers can use only the pieces their stylesheets actually need. Preboot is intentionally interface-agnostic, making it more of a CSS authoring toolkit than a visual framework.
