Gen1Recomp is a native LÖVE2D recreation of Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow written primarily in Lua. It does not emulate a Game Boy or distribute game ROMs, instead decoding data and graphics from a legally supplied canonical US ROM. Imported data is converted into a private cache so later launches do not require the ROM again. The project supports keyboard and controller input, configurable graphics, game speed, saves, and portable storage. Users can choose a faithful ruleset that preserves original Generation I quirks or a cleaner alternative. A built-in mod platform provides registries, hooks, events, per-mod saves, options, and an in-game manager for custom content.
