Hi Everybody, Version 1.0 was uploaded today. The "current" directory will point to the 0.99 release and I won't trigger the automatic update message for a while to be sure things look OK. There are a few things I'd like to point out with this release. The first thing you may notice is that the name has changed. Evernote asked that I do this so someone wouldn't associate this program with theirs. It also allows me to ask that it be put in the Trunk so it can get some more exposure. I looked for a name that I liked, wasn't used by another project, and in some way described what this behemoth does. I tried several names from the survey and names other people had emailed me. I never found anything I liked, but the best I came across was *nixNote. Since the focus is on Linux/Unix I figured NixNote is about as good as anything. As I get time, I'll be changing the web site & setting up SourceForge to point to the proper name, but right now my free time is limited so I'll continue to use the NeverNote site. I apologize for the confusion. I'd also like to point out that this is the first non-beta release. WOOHOO!!! I'd like to thank everyone who helped get NN to this point. From everyone who submitted code, helped with the web site, submitted bug reports, or simply offered suggestions I'd like to say "THANK YOU". It has come a long way in 2.5 years. I started to compile a list of everyone to name personally, but the list grew rather long and I was afraid of forgetting someone, but even if I don't mention every one by name I really do appreciate everything you all have done. I'd like to say this release is completely bug free, but it is "good enough". Considering even IEFBR14 had bugs, this program will never be completely bug free. If you have problems please post a bug report. Mainframe geeks will understand the IEFBR14 reference. :-) Going forward I plan on splitting the releases into stable & non-stable releases. For stable releases it will be the same as it always has been. I'll do full uploads of everything needed for a new install. For the unstable releases I'll just be posting the files which have changed since the last release and the instructions on how to use them. Installing the unstable release will be more difficult for novice users and the unstable release will always have more issues so use it with caution. This will allow me to push out changes a little more quickly since I won't need to go through the full package build & upload. When the unstable build is good enough I'll publish a stable release with everything needed. Finally, I'd like to point out that this release adds the ability to view and edit the source HTML of a note. This can be useful if you have problems saving a note or to tweak the formatting. The thing to remember is that it will still try to cleanup any invalid HTML so it can be synchronized with Evernote, so formatting may still be modified after saving. It also won't prevent you from doing anything foolish like editing encrypted text or changing resource GUIDs so be careful. Thanks, Randy |
