Ever since I've updated to the latest notepad++ I have been experiencing random crashes on several machines. Sometimes it happens when i copy and paste, sometimes I'll have it minimized, bring it back up and it is locked up, and today it did it while I was refreshing a page with a google map in it.. which was really weird. Then I have to do the ctl+alt+del dance and kill it. I can't seem to find anything specific I am doing to make this happen and have been watching very closely for weeks now. Once again as i said this is happening on several different machines all with Windows XP on them, there is definitely a bug there and it seems to be some sort of random memory leak.

Today I posted a BUG N++ hang that confirms the change mark plugin (the only plugin active) under N++ 5.4.5 unicode as the cause of a random hang (50% of a dual core cpu) after a save

I have had a similar crash and have managed to capture the notepad++.exe.hdmp file (26Mb). Is that any use to you? There was also a mdmp file but I couldn't capture it because it was locked by the Windows Crash Utility.
Thx. Gonville

When a crash takes place, Notepad++ normally suggests creating a NppDump.dmp file. If you get the option, accept, and (7)zip it to donho. Both action courses will help (a plugin may be misbehaving because of a bug of its own or because it exposes a bug elsewhere)

I'll do the plugin dance tonight at home when I'm not on company time. No chance of getting a dump because the program simply locks up, no way for it to do the smart stuff. It sure looks like a memory related issue to me and next time it does it I will take a screenshot so you can see what I mean. Some of the menus go plain white etc like a memory leak would cause. It just did it to me again a few minutes ago, all I was doing was editing a php page and refreshing/minimizing./maximizing the page over and over. It also seems to do it if I do like a copy and paste and I click/move REALLY fast above the program. I get this on any machine randomly throughout a day (in an average 8 hour day it usually happens between 3 and 5 times)

No problem at all, It's always a pleasure to get the compliment :)
Could you remove ONLY Change Mark plugin from all of your PC at work to see if it's the culprit?
Thank you in advanced.

I don't see a particular confirmation posted here so…
If you have experienced an unknown application hang after doing some editing in multiple tabs (especially find-replace in all files) and then saving the odds are you are experiencing a ChangeMarkers bug.
A user shouldn't need to go into the directories to add/remove plugins, so just go to the Plugins manu for change markers and select disable plugin. It will stay disabled between sessions.
A new version of Change Markers is in progress now that will not be able to hang like the current version.
I apologize for any data that you may have lost and will post when the new version is available.
Sincerely,
Thell

Don I am now testing the reverse setup as you suggest.

Did you try applying the procedures described in http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/notepad-plus/index.php?title=Crashes ? Chances are that a plugin is misbehaving regrdless of what you are doing.

Can I rather suggest LEAVING only the change marker on instead? That way, we'd know the crash is either in the CM or in the core...
