The transparancy effect is very visually annoying and it doesn't help me in the least to read text underneath it. Instead, what I see is a jumbled mess: I can't read the find window and I can't see the text it's supposedly revealing with its transparency. Worst of both worlds. I used to keep my find window open a lot on my screen for convenience but I cannot do so now, it's too hard on the eyes.
How do I shut transparency off?
If you don't allow users to shut this off (you really should, with something that affects one's ability to visually use the software), what is the last version of the software that DID NOT have this feature enabled?

Well it all depends on
* the text background/foreground combination you have
* the amount of trasparency
In the lower right corner of the Find/Replace dialog, you'll find tranparency settings. As stated in the docs:
* the checkbox turns transparency on or off, uncheck for off
* the sloder controls the amount. I'm happy with it being set at about 30% (having the value shown on a tooltip would be great)
* the radio buttons allow you to choose when you want the box to become translucent.
The dialog background color is a Windows system wide property, but you can adjust that too.
Have fun, I find it useful, as I can read the text underneath and still locate buttons on the dialog.

This option needs to be added to the rest of the settings. When the find window is transparent, you can't see the transparency option.

Just make it not too transparent. For instance, against a dark background and the slider pushed left at 1/4, I can see the option. Clicking the box will make it opaque anyway. You have to fine tune depending on our monitor, lighting, eyesight and more individual parameters.
