    I recently started getting crashes of NP++ (was using v5.0.3) just by mousing over the File/Edit/Search menu area of the app.  Sometimes it will happen after lauching the File/Open dialog.  I had recently added a the MultiMon app to support dual monitor switching and task bars.  I've since removed that, uninstalled & reinstalled NP++V5.0.3, upgraded to V5.4.5, uninstalled & reinstalled NP++V5.4.5.  I've temporaily renamed my plugins directory so NP++ doesn't see them...still happens.

    The error exception message shows:

    Code = 0xC0000005
    Type = Access Violation
    Exception Address = 0x004018E0

    I'm suspecting that a common DLL has been overwritten, but no idea which one.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for any help you can give.  I've become addicted to using NP++...don't want to have to wipe this workstation and start all over, and I don't want to give up NP++.

      Jason,

      I just send you a fixed binary. Please confirm me if the crash issue is fixed.

      With the exception report, you may have had the option to create a dump file. If so, please choose to create it, and 7zip'N email it to donho.

      I ZIPped and sent the dump file to don.h@free.fr

      Hopefully that's the correct email address?

      Thanks for checking this out,

      Jason

      p.s. - Just realized you asked for 7-zip...it's done & on the way as well.

      Just an FYI...there are quite a few NP++ users in this group, and I have now heard of at least two others getting these crashes with various versions.  We're guessing it may have something to do with a patch (most likely from MS) that was recently forced on us by our IT, but have no clue what it could have been.

      I have Windows XP SP3 Home, and get hit with updates once in a while. They never caused crashes on my system. The second last one turned off advanced text services, which was a problem when typing non latin characters, but the last one didn't. I'm lucky perhaps :-)

      One of the other engineers here posted bug #2840672...

      He has rolled back to V4.9.2, and has gone a few days now without a crash.  Don't know if this will help isolate the problem, but thought you should know.

      And it does sound like you're lucky!
