They sure will help everyone, if only by assessing whether one of your plugins misbehaves or whether NP++ does.
Oh, btw, did you upgrade to 5.4.5? Please do that first, if applicable.

I have the same issue reported above with occasional lagging when I click the save button. I usually end up forcing the application to end and when I restart it, it is ok for a while.
Thank you for the link, cchris. I am already using 5.4.5 but I have uninstalled all the plugins that I don't use. If the problem persists, I will have to see if one of the plugins I use could be the problem.
I will try to post back here any information I find because I was surprised that more people didn't report this problem in the forums.

I'm on Windows XP SP3 with Notepad++ 5.4.5. I upgraded from 4.1.2 to 5.4.5 via the installer when the problem started.

The symptoms you report make me think the Change Markers plugin could be involved. It hangs i quite specific situations, which would explain why most people didn't experiene the problem. The plugin is being rewritten at this moment, as the issue was diagnosed as a design flaw.
Try removing Change Markers and see if you get the freeze. This may make the test procedure shorter by hitting the culprit first.

The closest simulation I've found is when working on a file on a network drive that gets disconnected - NPP tries to autosave, and everything crashes :)

I re-enabled all the plugins except the Change Markers plugin. As you can probably see, I gave it about a month. I have not experienced any more lagging or freezing in the last month. I hope this is useful to somebody else.

Indeed, this is a known issue. The plugin has been withdrawn from official distribution and is being rewritten, as the issue was traced to a design fault.
