First of all thank you very much for such a great editor.
I have a request for a feature that is common in most of the tabbed window interface programs and so I am used to it and I quite lack it in Notepad ++.
At this point the only way you can switch between documents using a keyboard shortcut is Ctrl-Tab or Ctrl-Shift-Tab where the sequence of the documents is arranged from the last active to the least.
I would be very pleased if there was a keyboard shortcut Ctrl-PageDown and Ctrl-PageUp which would switch to the next / previous document based on the order in which the documents were opened. In other words the Ctrl-PageDown would activate the tab that is the first to the right of the current active tab and Ctrl-PageUp would activate the one to the left.

Dave thank you very much, sorry that I did not look up plugins in advance.
Anyway I'd suggest that such a basic feature should be implemented in the core since I think that most users won't ever feel like there is a plugin for this functionality and therefore would not even try to search for it. But maybe I'm wrong and I'm just too lazy :)

Now I've thought about it, you can do something similar without the plugin - but it's not quite as neat. Just map "Switch to next document" to Ctrl-PgDn and Switch to Previous Document to Ctrl-PgUp (use the shortcut mapper, they're the options at the bottom of the first list). Then go to settings and preferences, misc tab, and untick Enable MRU in the "Document Switcher" box. It doesn't seem to be quite as smooth, in that you can only do one document at a time, but it works.

If you have a keyboard with the "back" and "forward" keys (normally used for web browser navigation), they are mapped by default to previous and next documents in tab order (and it seams not possible to remap them in "shortcut mapper"). I don't know if it works also with "back" and "forward" buttons on a mouse.

If you grab the file switcher plugin, and set the shortcuts for "Switch to Previous document" and "Switch to next document" to Ctrl-PgUp and Ctrl-PgDn, that will have the effect you're looking for.
Note that currently it only does this based on the tab order, so if you've reordered the tabs after opening them, it will use the new order. This is set to change to allow some options in a future version though.
