I don't have that problem on my vista Business and XP pro systems.
Did you installed the new version over the old version?
Did you tried notepad++ without the plugins?

My system is Windows XP Pro. I installed notepad++ 5.1.4 as it is from sf.net (it comes with some plugins built in). I installed it on top of 5.1.3 (would it be better to uninstall the old version first? if so - would it cause losing all my preferences?)

it can be that a plugin that came with v5.1.3 causes the crash problem.
Therefor you have to uninstall the old version or try installing v5.1.4 in a other folder.

I have the crash problem every time I try to close it after opening a ascii file in unicde version of notepad++. Maybe you are experiencing the same thing as I do.

Since I installed 5.1.4 I get crashes all the time. Very often it crashes on "pure virtual function call".
