Is there a way to get horizontal split screen in Notepad++? Cloning in another view creates a vertical split screen. Searched around but couldn't find any info on this. Thanks.

Now assume I have a master document, each item of which is to be reflecte in two different sections of another document. The ideal layout for this would be Outlook-like, with the ability to place the equivlent of the folder tree either on the left or right.

I fondly remember an old DOS editor (Bingo) which has the ability to split windows at will, as long as there is enough room onscreen - obviously, the total number of displayed lines was the bottleneck. The file being viewed in each window could be the same as another window or not. Any chance to see this functionality in N++?

I need this as well.  I suppose I could just open a 2nd occurance of NP++ but it would be a nice built in feature.  I would use it for comparing data files (I.E. csv).

Strange, I didn't see the replies until after I "Replied".  cocinerox, your example shows how to get a vertical split from a horizontal split.  The question is how do you get a horizontal split?

Right click the arrow on the splitter bar. You'll have the option of turning the bar either clockwise or counterclockwise, resulting in it being horizontal in either case. The same approach will of course turn an horizontal bar to a vertical one.
