I working quite much with rkward (imho the best GUI for R), but i have the following problem.
- occasionally can't "run all" by F9, can't copy/paste
- still can type (but sometimes my text ends up in the interactive console window, instead of the script editor window)
- although i'm still in editor window the icon menus change to something that is usually if the focus is on the console window
- changing focus a few times between script editor/console window solves the problem.
I vaguely remember that some 3-4 years ago similar problem devastated my ubuntu (non-responding keys, lost focus), but i am not sure if it is related...
anyhow, does anyone have any tip if its a rkward or rather a xubuntu problem?
(no similar problems with other applications though...)
best,
gabor
specs :
- Xubuntu 8.04 running on VMware from win XP
- rkward 0.4.9 , KDE 3.5.10

just a related question:
is there any shortcut key to change focus between console/editor windows?
I would entirely exclude my mouse from the development (write/run/test) cycle if possible.
also, is there any way to use CTRL-C, CTRL-V shortcuts **across** rkward windows?
(or any other key bindings)

These work (albeit buggy sometimes) :
Alt 0 : Editor; Alt 3 : Command Log; Alt 4 : Pending Jobs; Alt 5: Console; Alt 6 : Help
Tip: Sometimes the focus freezes on the Console. To get rid of that, Cycle through "Alt 0 + Alt 5" sequence a few times, rapidly :)
Tip: Alt 3 ... 6 can be used to toggle (open/close) the respective windows as well.
These partially work:
Alt 1 : Workspace Browser; Alt 2 : File Browser
Partially because, though you can toggle (open/close) the browsers, you still have to use the mouse to navigate through them...

These should be handled by the Desktop Mangager (e.g., Klipper for KDE). If you are asking about copying/pasting between Console and Editor then except Ctrl-C in Console (which is actually intended to stop the running command), they should work.

Thanks for the info. The use of shortcut keys helps a lot. Though requires some time to get used to it.
On Suse (KDE3) rkward (0.4.9) is I confirmed the same focus problem, so Xubuntu is not to be blamed.
Somewhat OFF but after upgrading Ubuntu 8.10 rkward (0.5.0b) is broken (icons and some of the menus are missing). My default window manager is gnome, so there can be some problem with KDE 4 I guess. After fixing it, I can tell if it has this focus problem or not.
In either ways, this is really a great app, I hope that the developers won't give up on it
(e.g. I read somewhere about plans to extend it to Windows - seemingly with no tangible results).
btw, http://rkward.sourceforge.net/
says:
"Réponse serveur SQL : Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)"
which is not promising either...
once again, thanks for the replies.

I rarely use F9, so can not comment on it. But never had any problems with copy/paste (modulo focus issues)..

Right, these are still annoying bugs, but not "show stopper" I guess. I face these routinely in KDE 3.5 using rkward 0.4.9a. Do not know about the 0.5 version on KDE 4.x! As I mentioned in the other reply, repeated use of "Alt-0 Alt-5" gets the focus fixed. Doing this with shortcut keys, as opposed to a mouse, is not that bad actually! You get the hang of it :)
