Not sure why I get the errors (bottom of this post). I read thru the link (issue1666807). Here is what I get:
>>> import inspect
>>> inspect.getabsfile(inspect)
'c:\\bn\\python23\\lib\\inspect.py'
Help on where the ".vc7" comes from and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.
I am using Python 2.3.5, PyDev 1.3.20, Eclipse 3.4 on MS Windows XP.
Thank you.
Olaf

Well, I don't know where that comes either... (it's a python bug, so, asking at the python list may get you more details) -- what I do know is that it breaks the debugger...
Now, you can probably make it work in pydev is editing org.python.pydev.debug/pysrc/pydevd_file_utils.py and within the method _NormFile(filename) make something as filename = filename.replace('.vc7', '') -- note that you must do that in the second definition -- in the scope that gives you that warning.
Cheers,
Fabio

I think I found the place to insert the line of code you mentioned above. But this did not solve the problem as there were other files the debugger is not able to find (such as string, some packages under Lib\site-packages, and some files in my project.
Also, the ctrl-F10 (Add Breakpoint) does not seem to work consistently. And the debugger did not stop at some breakpoints. And I could not figure out how to tell the debugger to always start the project (not the current file I was editing/viewing).
So I am giving up for now. Too bad.

Well, for the other places, you'd have to workaround in the same way because of this python bug (so, maybe upgrading python if you can could be a good idea)...
As for running a file, usually I run the file I want to debug and then use F11 to debug the last file launched (provided that you check 'always launch the previously launched application' on window > preferences > run/debug > launching).
Cheers,
Fabio

Yes that file exists, but could please be more specific on how to patch it? Perhaps attach the updated file?
Thank you and nice to hear from you.

Hi fabio
first of all thanks for putting all the guide online that gave me a quick start on eclipse and python learning
I followed the guide and successfully emerged pydev into eclipse
I have encountered a debugger problem on my pc..
Here the details of the error.. the my information about tools involved
"Unexpected error setting up the debugger
socket closed"
OS : VISTA
Eclipse SDK
Version: 3.4.1
Pydev 1.3.24
Thanks in Advance
Do you have a firewall enabled that could be preventing socket communication?
Cheers,
Fabio
