I'm trying to modify and existing user language. It seems the panels are display only and not editable for keywords. So how do you modify an existing language? Another question is how do you define a new language? Again the panels seem to be display only and not editable. Is there any real documentation of this feature, or only pretty pictures? Sorry if this has be discussed before but I did not find a forum search feature.

If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
Look at User Defined Syntax Highlighting, on this page http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/about.php
and it has screen shots on setting user defined dialogs.
The Menu button User Define Dialog opens a user form, and you can
Dock that so a candidiate file can appear alongside. That will show
the highlighter choices as you make them.
You do not need to fill all fields, and it saves into userDefineLang.xml
Create a backup copy, as a new install replaces that.

Just found out about it. I really hope they will put the common search button back in the upper right corner of the page.

It's the last option in the Forums list in the button bar.
Now you can enjoy TWO steps before you can perform a search. Yeehah!
