Well, the project hasn't been updated for quite a while but thousands of developers are using and loving it. Just like me.

Did Fabrizio let this project die?
Does someone has any information about the project future?

  I am glad you are fine! Thank you so much for your work so far, I really appreciate it. I hope you will find some time in the future to do a 1.1.2 relase and include some more patches from JIRA.

  Fabrizio is still alive but so busy with his work that he can't find the time to work on displaytag :(
  
  Seriously, I don't want the project to die and I also planned a new release months ago. It's still on my todo list and I sincerely think/hope that I will be able to find some time for that in future, but I can't give the project an higher priority right now, sorry...
