I've noticed some performance problems when editing big files (about 1MB) in XML format. The problem seems to be in NPP since I've disabled all plugins.
As far as I remember, previous versions had not this problem.
Thanks

I'm having the same problem editing "large" binary files. There is one binary file (16MB) I have to open from time to time, and when I do I can go for a coffee break. It does open, but it takes several minutes.

I've tried with a 16MB XML file. The problem occures when changing tab, not when opening it.
The opening of file takes about 1 second, but when I switch to another tab then come back to the previous one, it takes 110 secondes to display the content...
I'll prepare a sample file and post it on my ftp so you can test it.

I've the same problem with file greater than 200-300 KB, like I said in an other thread.
The problem doesn't appear with version 4.9 (may be UNSTABLE) of 27-04-2008

Hi,
I got the same effect with a Perl source file of over 400kB: changing tabs is slow (approx. 5 seconds on 1GHz AMD Duron machine). On the other hand, changing tabs to a text file of 22MB is fast. It may be the syntax colouring function slowing down while changing to large Perl scripts.
I am currently using notepad++ 4.9.2.

Which version are you talking about?
Don
The last one, 4.9.2
Is the performance improved if you disable the smart highlight?
Don
No change with smart highlight disabled
