    Hi,

I'd like to know if there is some way to do a "find all" on the current file only (that is, not in all the open files).

The notepad++ find dialog is really complete and full featured. However I have not found any way to do a "find all" on the currently selected file only.

There is a button to "Find all in all opened documents" but when you are working with a lot of files at the same time (and sometimes they are not related) this is not so useful.

So, if there is no way to do this I would like to suggest that it would be a useful feature and I hope that it could be added to the find dialog.

Thanks a lot for this amazing piece of software. It is certainly the best open source editor for Windows!

    Cheers,

    Amadawn

I'd really like to see this feature too. I prefer the above suggestions, but another alternative would be in the 'Find in Files' dialog, you could have a button to select only the current file.

However it's done, I'd really like to see this. At the moment I have to open the file in a new instance and use 'Find all in all opened files', it's a bit of a pain.

      Hi,

You can achive it by two ways.
      1. select "mark line" just below "Find What:" and Hit "Find All" button next to that.
It will mark all lines containing that word. Which you can iterate these lines
using "F2". also if you use "Style found token" (option below "mark line").
         it will highlight the word.

      2. You can use incremental search by using "Ctrl + Alt + I". After using this combination of keys, the option will be shown at bottom. This is the most handy option (better than VS). Here as you go on typing it will move cursor to matching locations. You can use "highlight all" option. Try to use it as much as possible, after that you will not move to Find dialog. I Guaranty...

      Regards

      Abhay

      Thanks Abhay,

however, although your suggestions are very handy (and I will definitely use them) sometimes I want to see all the lines were a certain string is found, very much as the "Find all in all open files" does, but only on the current file.

Hopefully this feature can be added to the Find Dialog in the future?

      Cheers,

      Angel

Perhaps you may be helped by the information and mechanism in this thread as well:

"missing bracket finder" (Open Discussion forum)
        http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=2039798&forum_id=331753

Instead of looking for any brackets, you may just copy your search string to the clipboard and use the TextFX Viz - Hide Lines Without (Clipboard Text) feature.

It is explained in the threads referred to.

This will make Notepad++ show only those lines that contain your search string, but only for as long as you don't leave and return to your current document. You can overcome this by copying the visible lines to a new document. If you insert all line numbers before the hiding and copying, the new document will be a list of all matching lines with their original line numbers. See the description in the thread mentioned above.

Like Amadawn, I would like to see the functionality of the "Find all in all opened documents" applied to just the current document.  Among other things I use this editor to look through large log files and sometimes have several open at once.  I would like to be able to use this functionality on just one of these files if I want.

I appreciate the work-around suggestions, here are so many cool ways to do things with this editor!

I'd like this button added, too, but it doesn't look likely according to this closed feature request.

It's quite mess in the current Find/Replace dialog interface. I want to
keep it as clean as possible.

there are four selections in find tab but five selections in replace tab.
so adding one selection named "find all" just like "replace all" is a good idea.

i use find all very often. i usually close other files to leave one or two files to find all. it is unconvenient.

I think that Don Ho's with to keep the find dialog as simple as possible is a good one, specially considering that it is already quite cluttered.

However, that does not mean that the dialog cannot be improved so that it is both simpler (or at least not more complex than it already is) and also allows to do a "Find All" "on current document".

In my opinion, instead of having a big "Find all in all opened documents' on the "Find" section, and a two buttons called "Replace All" and "Replace all in all opened documents" in the Replace section, there could be single (and smaller) "Find all" button, below which a "scope selector" could be placed. This would be a simple combobox with 2 options: "In current document" and "In all open documents".

I think this would work very well since it would make the Find and the Replace tabs be more similar, since the buttons on the right would have the same layout, while giving the possibility of doing both a find in all open documents and a find in the current document only.

Don, what do you think? Would that be acceptable to you?

      Cheers,
