    Hi everyone

I've just started to switch from using NoteTab for many many years, to using Notepad++
The main reason being code collapse and PHP syntax highlighting.

    I have a question though.

Is there a setting which would prevent / remove any indenting on blank lines?

I've found that it's getting quite easy for me to accidentally hit enter a few times and find all those lines indented when I didn't necessarily need them to be indented.

I hope I've explained that ok?!

    Thanks, B

There is a thread about indentation just a little back in history, still on the same page.

I agree, I don't think it should do the indentation until text is entered --- but then the cursor needs to be positioned where the indentation will be.  Damn I hate tabs for exactly reasons like this.

Ok that's interesting, just struck me as a weird behaviour to have as default.
Be cool if the default was to only indent when you start

I've disabled the auto-indent feature in the prefs now so it works exactly how I want it.

I was wondering though, I use Tabs to indent my PHP code - I understand that this is not advised, and that you should use spaces instead
Many open-source PHP scripts I've messes around with use 4 spaces as the standard indent

Is there a way so that in Notepad++, you can make it so that pressing tab actually inserts 4 spaces instead of a tab?

      That would be mega-cool!

      Thanks, B

        Menu____ : Settings
        Option__ : Preferences...
        Tab_____ : MISC
        Group___ : Tab Setting
Option__ : Replace by space (check this option)

Also, you can replace already existing tabs by spaces, manually (CTRL+H or CTRL+R) or leading tabs/spaces via the TextFX Edit submenu.
