Strange. When I use v4.8 or v4.8.1 I notice a very strange slow down of reaction in my webeditor KompoZer. Every time I right click on a cell it lasts about 5 seconds before the menu appears. When I go back to v4.7.5 it appears directly. I checked it 5 times with all three NPP versions. v4.7.5. is good, v4.8 & v4.8.1 are bad. So back to v4.7.5 till this problem is fixed.
Btw I use WinXP SP2. And I compared memory use, but couldn't find any significant difference.

I experienced kind of the same problem today. Usually, when writing an output file from Query Analyzer (table data), this takes some time. But today I wasn't able to switch to Notepad++ (4.8) directly. The editor seemed to be either busy or hang, while in fact it wasn't doing anything. I didn't check any other system parameters (memory etc.), but this fallback in performance just couldn't be ignored.

Do you have Explorer.dll in your plugins directory? If yes, rename it to Explorer.bak, then relaunch Notepad++.
If it doesn't help, quit Notepad++, rename plugins directory "plugins" to "plugins.bak" then relaunch Notepad++.

I just reinstalled v4.8.1, deleted Explorer.dll and the problem exist. So i reinstalled v4.7.5 (with Explorer.dll) and everything works as fast as usual. So it's not the explorer.dll that causes this trouble.

Did you try to remove all the plugins to make sure that the problem does come from npp v4.8.1?

not every issue comes from Explorer.dll ;). I suppose this behaviour comes from the new mouse wheel feature.

I suppose that you described is WITH plugins.
Could you test WITHOUT plugins?
