WINXP bluescreen after upgrade 4.7.5 to 4.8

I uninstall NP++ from my system, delete the program directory also the directory from the %userdata%. reinstall NP++ and the bluescreen reoccurs immediately . .(
I reboot my sytem and try to start Np++ and i get the error:
" The application or DLL C:\program files\nodepad++\ComparePlugin.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation."  A lot of follow-up errors appears .... thant NP++ starts without plugins ..

I reinstalled NP++, now the bluescreen appears.
Unfortunatelly the bluescreen shows no relation who or what is causing the error.
I reinstalled NP++ and every thing works again ...
any ideas ???

Does the blue screen occur when you actually start up Notepad++ or right after the installation. Also, if the DLLs are corrupt, maybe you have to check if your firewall or some download manager is corrupting your downloads. Also, when looking at those filesizes, some do not match the ones from 4.8OR, did you choose not to overwrite them? Also one file ends with ".dll.jes", please note that that DLL will still get loaded if I recall correctly (this can probably be filed as a bug).

If all fails, try booting into safe mode and then run Notepad++, maybe some hardware is triggering problems (I highly doubt that a sane install of Notepad++ can cause a BSOD, I think there is some underlying problem). Maybe run something liek a benchmark for stress testing or something like memtest.

I suppose that the blue screen appears after yuo've tried to launch npp right :). Did you try to launch the npp after the crash. Is there any message errors (plugs for ex), maybe there'll be a solution if any...

I jsut remembered there was something about manifest files and BSoDs in Windows XP. Though I dont think the one with Notepad++ should cause the crash (it hasnt been changed since 4.2 afaik) it might be worth some investigation.

No blue screens here but npp crashes every time I try and open a file with it. I uninstalled and did a clean install but still npp crashed. The RC worked fine for me with no probs.

Error message: Faulting application notepad++.exe, version 4.8.0.0, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.3311, fault address 0x000369aa.

many thanks for your support. Here about your questions.

   In an earlier version of the NPP there was still the LightExplorer. I have renamed this plugin. This had no      effect for this problem.

   sometimes later.....

Now it seems i have narrow down the problem because the NPP 4.8 runs now without Bluescreen.
Scenario:
- Install NPP 4.7.5 -> it works without problems
- use the notepad++.exe from the NPP 4.8 and NPP starts with success
- uninstall NPP 4.7.5 and reboot the system (WINXP Professional SP2 + hotfixes)
- install NPP 4.8 ONLY base and without, Plugins and Autoupdate !! and Don't use the %userdata%
- install over this installation NPP 4.8 again, now with the option "plugin", NPP 4.8 still works ...
- Now i can use again ALL my old plugins.

So the only difference between this installation and my crashed installation, the working installation was installed WITHOUT Autoupdate !!
So why can cause the Autoupdate feature a bluescreen?
Is the Autoupdate active while the NPP start?

After installing NP++ 4.8 and launching it, the system (XP SP2) restarted automatically. After uninstalling and reinstalling without the plugins the same thing happened. After uninstalling again and reinstalling without the Auto-Updater the things are normal. I can open NP++ 4.8 without the system restarting. So the culprit is without a doubt the Auto-Update module.

I think so, GUP.exe actually HAS the manifest files that can cause the BSoD, please check the KB article I posted earlier, that fix _might_ be able to solve it. Im not sure which version of VS Don uses, but it probably isnt Service Pack 1+.
The old GUP.exe still has the old manifest file which didnt cause the crash but does cause trouble with UAC.
So I say its GUP.

Who knows, some problem with one of the plug-ins has been reported.

Do you expect anyone to find which version of the plugins you are using by simply putting the file sizes here???
